What are the terms for the parts on a Sneaker shoe?

As a person who is passionate and loves sneakers, you are probably not too unfamiliar with the different names of the parts on sneakers. But many of you find it difficult to communicate and interact with shoe enthusiasts because you do not understand these terms. So today Celidior would like to introduce the terms of the parts on sneakers for us to refer to. Check it out now, my friend!!

1. Sole 

Sole is the entire sole of the shoe excluding the shoe body. (includes 3 sole parts: insole, midsole, and outsole).

5. Tongue

Tongue is the uvula – the pad of the tongue.

6. Tongue Logo

7. Toe Box

The Toe Box is the part where your toes are placed, or in other words, where your toes rest. The Toe Box is near the tip of the shoe.

8. Swoosh

Swoosh is the Nike shoe logo on the shoe body

9. Insole

Insole is the inner shoe lining, increasing comfort and shock absorption for the shoe. Also known as Sock Linner.

10. Midsole

Midsole is the cushioning part in the middle of the shoe, providing the wearer with softness and elasticity. Midsole can be made of many different materials such as Boost, Foam, React, Zoom,...

11. Outsole

Outsole is the outer part of the shoe that contacts the ground to help prevent slipping.

12. Stitching

Stitching is the seam stitching on the shoe.

13. Heel & Heel Counter

14. Heel-Cup

Heep-cup is a plastic part that covers the heel to stabilize the heel. Heep-cup is often found in Ultraboost sneakers.

15. Heel Tab

Heel Tab is a part attached to the back of the heel, which helps increase stiffness and keep the shape of the heel of the shoe.

16. Heel Tag & Pull Tag

It is a tag on the back of the heel to hang shoes, depending on the type of shoe there will be many different types of tags.

17. Linning / Sock Linning / Counter Linning

Lining / Socklining is the lining material inside the shoe. The lining material inside the Heel is called Counter Lining or Heel Linning.

18. Collar

Collar is the padding material around the ankle.

19. Mudguard / Toe Cap

Is the part near the toe box. Helps increase the stiffness of the toe tip. There will be many different types of Mudguard. Also known as Toe Cap.

20. Tip / Toe Tip

Tip is the tip of the shoe, also known as toe tip.

21. Vamp

Divide the shoe body into 2 parts, Vamp is the upper half of the shoe.

22. Quarter

Divide the shoe body into 2 parts, Quarter is the back half of the shoe.

23. Lace Cage

It is a plastic frame for lacing the shoe that is attached to the shoe body to stabilize and increase the rigidity of the shoe when running. There are many different types of Lace Cage, Vsneaker would like to take the Lace cage of UltraBoost shoes as an example.

24. Lace Tag

Lace Tag is a small tag attached to the shoelace. The most noticeable is the small AF1 tag on the famous Air Force 1 shoe.

25. Aglet

As the part attached to the shoelace, the end of the lace, it is easy to see that Jordan shoes have beautiful metal Aglets. The most common are plastic aglets.

26. Throat

The throat part of the sneaker, including the Tongue, EyeStay, and Eyelet.

27. Lace Guard

Part of the shoe lacing system, helps stabilize the Eyestay for putting on shoes.

28. Tongue Padding

Is the padding on the tongue, helps hold the ankle tight and increases comfort.

29. Binding

It is the seam on the tongue, depending on the type of shoe, there are shoe models that do not have Binding like Air Jordan 1 Off White shoes,...

30. Welting

Is the part that connects the Sole and Upper.

31. TopLine

Is the line connecting the 2 parts Linning and Collar

32. Bumper
